It all began in 2019 when Sharon Goods and Kenoli Oleari hatched a brilliant plan to display art by AOPR artists outdoors on large format vinyl banners in downtown Point Richmond.
Kenoli and Sharon formed a Taking It Outdoors (TIO) team with volunteers from AOPR and worked with AOPR member Bob Colin to secure a grant from the Gateway Foundation, but then the pandemic hit. Undeterred, they carried on working behind the scenes, and finally, one year, much work, and a pandemic later, their brainchild came to life with eye-catching art banners that captivated the attention and appreciation of artists, residents, and visitors alike.
Every year since its inception, thanks to the efforts of Sharon and Kenoli and the TIO Team, a new crop of banners has appeared on walls, windows, gates and fences around downtown. The TIO project has grown and evolved into an iconic and much-beloved feature of AOPR and Point Richmond. In 2025, Kenoli and Sharon are taking an advisory role and passing the torch to an experienced TIO team including new members committed to carrying this much-loved project into the future. Thank you, Kenoli and Sharon, for your work these last five years and for continuing to provide your enthusiasm and advice. We are deeply grateful!
