Jim DeWitt was born in Oakland, California, in 1930. He has lived and worked in Richmond since 1960. Jim’s impressive career never veered far from his early passions —racing sailboats and art. The spirit and honesty of his colorful, usually action-oriented marine art reflects both his artistic skills and his long and successful career racing sailboats.
After high school, Jim studied art for six years at the California College of Arts and Crafts, and at Los Angeles Art Center in Pasadena, California. In addition to shows and exhibitions in San Diego, San Francisco, New York, Waikiki and Newport, Rhode Island, he has exhibited in galleries and museums worldwide.
Jim currently resides in historic Point Richmond with his wife, Sallie, and their dog, Amber. His daughter Pamela DeWitt Delaney runs a custom frame shop, and sells originals and prints of Jim’s paintings.
Jim is a member of Arts of Point Richmond.
